The Syndemic Response Alliance (SRA), a cornerstone program of Meae Wellness, urgently needs community support following significant federal funding cuts. Our Sexual Wellness Program, which provides critical health services to underserved populations across Montgomery County and beyond, is now at risk of being scaled back or shuttered altogether.
This program plays a vital role in preventing the spread of HIV and STIs, promoting health equity, and ensuring that marginalized communities—especially LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and youth—have access to stigma-free, judgment-free care.
What the Program Provides
- Free and confidential HIV and STI testing
- Distribution of over 20,000 free condoms every year
- Navigation to PrEP and PEP services
- Access to affirming healthcare providers and follow-up resources
- Outreach education and harm reduction support
Proven Impact
In 2024 alone, SRA:
- Distributed more than 20,000 condoms, lubricants, and safer sex kits
- Conducted 2,500+ HIV/STI screenings at no cost to participants
- Maintained an impressive 80% return rate for follow-up services—meaning most clients came back for care, testing, or referrals
- Linked over 700 individuals to preventative treatment, medical services, or peer support
- Delivered direct outreach through mobile units, peer educators, and community drop-ins across the region
These services are a critical point of access for people who often fall through the cracks of the healthcare system—including uninsured residents, individuals facing stigma, and those in rural or high-risk communities.
Why Funding Is Urgently Needed
Due to federal cuts, core funding that once sustained this program is no longer available. Without emergency support from community members, sponsors, and local partners, these proven and vital services may be severely reduced or lost altogether.
We’re asking for your help to keep the doors open and outreach on the streets.
